Here is a Healthy Living Tip: There is something that I really don't understand about life here in America. Why doesn't more people care about their health when there are so many easy ways to lose weight? The quality of our health should be our number one concern. If we don't take care of ourselves, then who will?

A friend of mine just turned 60 and he was talking about how old he was getting and how he could no longer do the things he used to. I just could not wrap my head around his comment. What you have to understand is that he is around 400 pounds and he's only 5'8".

I have following healthy living tips for over 35 years. I'm all but a vegetarian (I do eat seafood on rare occasion), and I eat healthier than anyone I know. And at 59, I still love mountain biking.

When I was in my early 40's and a hardcore mountain biker, I had one of those life changing moments happen to me. I had just climbed a 2 ½ mile climb and about 2 minutes behind me came this old guy. He wasn't even winded! He had no teeth and a French accent. I finally had to ask him how old he was. He told me he was 63.

Right at that moment I knew that at age 63 I could be enjoying this sport and still kicking butt on 90% of the riders.

What's important to me is the quality of my health when I am 63. I don't want to be 63 and suffering from obesity, or arthritis, or emphysema, high blood pressure, or whatever. My buddy is settling for a great deal less than what he has to. He's either ignorant, lazy, or, I'm sorry, just too brainless to do anything about it.

Sure, I have talked to him about the easy ways to lose weight, Sure, I have tried to help him understand all of the easy ways to lose weight, but he just dosn't want to change

I would rather be healthy, active and enjoying my life, than be a fat couch potato, unhealthy, getting winded just walking to the frig, and being less than what I could be.

Do not get me wrong, I love my buddy of 34 years, and I love ice cream and chocolate, homemade chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, oh, and pizza too, but I realize the difference of eating these foods as treats, and not as my daily staples.

What is it with Americans today? Let me leave you with this Healthy Living Tip: There are easy ways to lose weight, but you need to want to lose it.

Diet Soda - Are Diet Sodas Healthy?

Are diet soda really as healthy as it is claimed to be?

Many people, when they start a new diet, decide to switch from regular soda to the diet variety to reduce the calories they consume. But are diet colas really a healthy alternative? True, by switching you will reduce the calorie consumption considerably, because while regular sodas contain over 100 calories per can, diet soda has none.

If you are used to drinking a number of cans of soda each day, you will be adding to your calorific intake by hundreds of calories a day, so a switch will inevitably result in a massive reduction in calories consumed. Lower calories however, are not the whole story. Even diet soda contains artificial sweeteners, sodium, and carbonated water, which do not promote better health.

Sodium can cause water retention, which can lead to blood pressure problems, and the carbonation of sodas is believed to result in the loss of calcium in the bones. This can result in osteoporosis, - more likely in women. Sodas also contain caffeine, which is a stimulant that can be damaging to the body when taken in excess. Drinking diet soda doesn't increase your calories, but it can prevent you from drinking the more healthy juice or water.

Yes, drinking diet cola instead of regular will reduce your calories, but it won't contribute to better health unless you restrict consumption. Why not try drinking a little more juice or water, as these are more likely to help to improve your health?

Fast Food Facts - You Better Know What You Are Up Against

These days we are looking to make things, particularly eating, more convenient. With both parties in a couple working full time at often challenging careers, the fast food restaurant can be seen as the answer to getting a nourishing meal quickly and easily. Many feel they just don't have the time to prepare a meal after working a long day, and the convenience of fast food is appealing. However, they are not the best choice for a healthy nutritious meal. Let us look at a few facts about some of the fast food that is popular today.

McDonalds'

One of the wide range of hamburgers on offer with a portion of fries can be really tasty, but a regular Double Quarter Pound Cheeseburger with a medium portion of fries will give you about 60g of fat and around 1,100 calories, plus whatever you have to drink with it. So if your daily calorie target is 2,000 calories, you are already over halfway to your total with just the one meal.

Kentucky Fried Chicken

They offer very popular chicken meals, that are quick and easy, but just one original recipe chicken breast will give around 21g of fat and about 360 calories. Two chicken breasts will add up to 42g of fat and 720 calories. Plus any other things like potato wedges, cheese, pasta or mashed potato, which will add their own additional fat and calorie factors.

Pizza Hut

What can be easier than a 'phoning for a pizza delivery? A Large Pepperoni pan pizza has approximately 14g of fat and 270 calories per slice! Eat just two slices of pizza (and who does?), and you will have taken on board about 28g of fat and a massive 340 calories. Add on the various extra toppings that are so popular, and the figures just keep on rising.

Subway

You may think that you are eating healthily, but be careful about what you choose. A 6" Chicken Parmesan sandwich is around 18g of fat and about 500 calories. Add on the numbers for any side orders and relish or sauce on your sandwich, and the total amounts of fat and calories can be high. Steer clear of fast food outlets if you can, but if you need the convenience they offer, check out their menu in advance, to find what is available, so that you won't exceed your diet plan.

Permanent Weight Loss - Small Changes Bring Huge Results

By Carolyn Williams

If you have repeatedly been successful losing weight yet gained it all back, you need a different approach. The best plan is to make small changes that will yield a pound or two of weight loss every 5 to 7 days. At this rate you can conceivably lose 10 pounds per month. Before you know it, six months have passed and you find yourself 30 to 50 pounds lighter. I say that is a fine accomplishment.

One Step at a Time

Take the first step in your dieting plan which is to record everything you eat. This record should include approximate portions and the nutritional content which can be found on the Department of Agriculture website. After the first week, review your intake and determine where improvements can be made.

The foods you eat are the result of habits you have established over time which will not be changed overnight. Constantly review your journal and commit to replacing foods with high fat and sugar content with those high in fiber and protein. If you experience setbacks, just focus and try again and again until you make the necessary change, one step at a time. The key is to make one or two changes that you can do then move on after you have formed the new habit.

Small Changes Bring Big Results

To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you eat. If you are not ready or able to exercise, start by changing the foods you eat. Try one or more of the following suggestions to kick start your change:

Low-calorie Soups and Salads

A category of foods that provide an endless variety of choices is soups and salads. They all contain high amounts of water and will help you feel full faster and longer. Soups are so diverse that you should easily find several that you like. The best soups are the ones you make yourself since homemade soups are less likely to contain artificial ingredients.

Start with homemade beef or chicken stock or broth and add potatoes, onions, green peppers, carrots or other vegetables you like. If you prefer, make soups that start with tomatoes then add the above ingredients or whatever vegetables you prefer.

Another alternative is to have a bowl of salad with your favorite raw vegetables and fiber filled beans along with a vinegar dressing. This dish also includes unlimited variations so there is no reason to get tired of salads.

Cut the Calories

Rather than a sandwich with mayonnaise, substitute mustard which contains very few calories. Use multi-grain bread and lean cuts of meat like turkey, chicken or beef.

Substitute a banana or apple for deserts and drink water or unsweetened green tea.

Trim the Fat

Trim fat from beef and remove the skin from chicken or turkey. Replace the melted butter, gravy, sauces, and cheese with herbs and spices to enhance the flavor of meats and serve with steamed vegetables.

These suggestions eliminate huge setbacks that cause you to give up and gain back any weight that you have lost. The important message here is to make small changes in your diet that you can adjust to for permanent weight loss.

Ten Reasons Why You Are Not Losing Weight

By Samantha Hua

95% of dieters gain all the weight they lost back and add extra pounds after a year. So why do we sign up for a new diet fad year after year with such disappointing guarantees? We want answers and we want to look great, but it is time we realize that diets don't work because they are too restrictive, too depressing, and do not take into consideration that we are individuals with different bodies, metabolism, and lifestyle. Too much restriction makes the pendulum swing the opposite direction---binge eating. It is time we stand up to dieting gimmicks and start nourishing our bodies. Here are 10 reasons why you're not losing weight:

1. Not enough water. Most people are chronically dehydrated, and we often mistake thirst for hunger. If you feel hungry between meals, drink a glass of water before giving into cravings. Limit liquid calories from soda, juice, and coffee.

2. Eating process food. Avoid products with too much sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or ingredients you can't pronounce. They are loaded with empty calories and lack the nutrients your body needs.

3. Not enough plants. Plant foods are lower in fat and calories and higher in fiber than meat, dairy, and processed foods while providing loads of nutrients.

4. Skipping meals. Skipping meals causes your blood sugar levels to spike and crash, affecting your energy and mood. Because you become so hungry, it leads to overeating. Our body also responds by slowing metabolism, retaining weight, and switching into famine mode.

5. Eating too fast. Digestion begins in the mouth with saliva breaking down food. By thoroughly chewing your food, your body will assimilate nutrients better. By slowing your eating, you give your brain time to register that you're full and you'll feel satisfied on less food.

6. Eat mindlessly. Turn off the TV, get away from the computer, sit down, and savor the food you are eating with no distractions. Eating when multi-tasking and stressed results in increased cortisol levels and weight retention.

7. Not enough movement. Do any type of physical activity every day. Find movement you enjoy.

8. Lack of sleep, rest, relaxation. When you are sleep-deprived or stressed, your body will crave energy, causing cravings for sugary snacks and caffeine as an energy boost.

9. Neglecting the soul. Friends and family, physical activity, spirituality and a satisfying career feeds us. When we lack these, we often rely on food to fill the void.

10. All work and no play. Boredom and stress can lead to overeating. Make sure to take time to laugh, play and participate in activities that bring you joy.

Let go of the restrictions and self-defeating gimmicks. Be easy on yourself, eat real food, and focus on nourishing your mind and body. Most importantly, get support! Support from friends, family, and a health coach is your key to success. Sign up for a FREE Health Consultation TODAY and start living with energy, life, and the body you want.

What Foods Burn Tummy Fat? 5 Tips For Finding Fat-Burning Foods

By Everett Maclachlan

Tummy fat is the known enemy of the fit-looking body. As most of us get past age 20 or 25, belly fat becomes harder and harder to fend off. Even when we work on each part of our bodies at the gym or through dieting, it can seem like the tummy fat battle is the hardest one to win.

And, fat around the midsection not only looks bulgy and unsightly, it can also be potentially bad for your health. Men and women with significant amounts of belly fat have been shown to have a better chance of developing heart disease.

So, what to do? Well, there are of course a number of recognized solutions for fighting the fat that crops up on your belly. Dieting and exercise, special pills, lotions, and liposuction have all been peddled. Some work, some do not.

One ideal solution to fighting tummy fat would be to find and eat fat-burning foods. Why not let the foods you eat do the fighting for you?

If you are wondering what foods burn tummy fat, here are 5 tips for finding the right types of fat-burning, or (thermogenic), foods:

1. Oatmeal:

Soluble fiber is a formidable opponent of belly fat, and oatmeal is full of that really good-for-you soluble fiber. For maximum health benefits, try to eat it plain or with just a bit of honey. Avoid the sugary or fruity oatmeal flavors.

2. Olive oil:

Oils are not all bad for you. While all oils contain fat, many oils contain the "good" fats that actually help lower the bad cholesterol in your bloodstream. Sure, certain fats are good for you and your body needs them. Olive oil is one of those good ones. Try a teaspoon or two of olive oil each day, either on your salad or on other foods.

3. Almonds:

Most types of nuts are amazing fat burners. And, almonds are somewhere near the top of the "good nut" list. Eating almonds each day can make you feel fuller longer after a meal. And, that full feeling means you will be less likely to snack on unhealthy foods between meals. Try to eat 20-25 plain, unsalted almonds per day.

4. Whey powder:

Most protein powders are made of whey. This contains amino acids which not only help burn fat, but they also help you build more muscle. Add some to your morning health drink or smoothie.

5. Peanut butter:

Many of us still think of peanut butter as a kid's food, but in reality it contains some really good stuff. For example, peanut butter contains niacin, which helps your body digest your food properly. Try to limit your intake to 1-3 teaspoons per day since it is high in fat content.

If you are trying to lose belly (tummy) fat, try these 5 fat-burning foods each day.

The Easy Way to Lose Weight Fast

CLICK HERE TO LOSE WEIGHT NOW!

By Jen K. Jones

After someone has made the decision to get rid of some weight the majority of people are keen to lose weight fast. After all, if it's possible to get that thinner look more quickly, why not? While it is possible to lose weight fast and make certain it doesn't come back there are quite a few possible barriers that must be overcome, these can be difficult, especially if the person trying is doing so on their own and not looking for the advice and direction of people that have managed to get long lasting results themselves. It is therefore crucial to find out the best method for losing those extra pounds.

The way most people immediately and intuitively turn to in order to get rid of that weight is simply to eat less. Unfortunately this is the only alternative most dieters consider but there are other ways to lose weight that some find easier. Eating less or even better cutting out entirely those foods that are bad for you is a great idea but reducing your calorific intake too much below the recommended daily amount is certainly not such a great idea. Cutting back on your calories too far below the recommended daily amount will send your body into a mode where it thinks there is a food shortage. The body's response is to retain as much energy as possible as body fat and expend less by reducing its metabolic rate. The result of all this is that it's harder to lose that weight.

Should it be that a dieter has rejected calorie restriction as a viable option then they are likely to choose to change what they eat to just a few foods that they consider to be healthy, it's quite easy to appreciate that diets such as these are hard to stick to and a lot of people flop early on. Most people have heard a friend or two comment that they followed this summer's fashionable diet and consequently shed an amazing number of pounds in only a few days. Regrettably, when you next hear of this person it can easily be the case that they've put all the weight they lost back on and then some more for good measure.

If you are going to try to get rid of some weight fast then there are some things you should keep in mind. How you set off on your diet is a good indicator of whether you will succeed or not. You can make a good start if you know what you're aiming for and having a definite plan will help with this. As usual it's crucial to have the right state of mind. Obviously, if you don't make sure your getting the correct nutrition and diet then being determined won't get you too far.

In order to do well in your diet it's sensible to follow at least the following dietary advice. Firstly, it's crucial to drink plenty of water to flush your system. There are good fats and bad fats in all our diets and needless to say you should try to decrease the bad and boost the good through eating oily fish, more nuts and skipping fried and other foods including things like hydrogenated oils. A common cause of weight gain is of course over-eating. Also it's far too common for people to skip breakfast completely and get most of their calories during the main evening meal. Loading all your calories like this forces the body to produce a lot of insulin in one go and this is not a great situation to be in, you'll likely feel sluggish and tired in the evening as you try to digest all this food but empty and tired at other times of the day. Therefore, if you're trying to lose weight fast, a good approach to eat more often and have your daily allowance split evenly over those meals. Fibre is the last point I'm going to mention, it's a vital part of a healthy diet. Since it's believed that a diet high in fibre will help you to eat fewer carbohydrates and so avoid the resulting high and low levels of blood sugar, then the risk of weight gain is reduced. The way to lose weight fast therefore has the best chance of success if the dieter follows a thorough, well researched program and preferably one specifically designed for their needs.
