When we decide to lose weight some of the first things that cross our minds are: What do I have to eat? Which exercises should I do? How long will it take, etc? Or maybe we are just skeptical whether or not we will succeed.

As the saying goes, everything starts in our minds. It is therefore a good idea to take stock of our thoughts, to find out about the way we see ourselves. This could be a good way to find out why we are overweight.

We all know that we need to burn more calories than we take in to lose body fat, we all know that certain foods are unhealthy, still we keep eating those, doing nothing about it. It is like a doctor who tells his patients about the dangers of smoking, yet he smokes himself.

Taking a deep look inside ourselves we are bound to find the reasons why we have not been taking care of our bodies.

Stress, frustration or simply bad habits are some of the reasons that could cause us to eat more than we should or eating the wrong foods. We will all find our own answers.

By knowing more about ourselves we can change some of the habits that would hamper any

effort to lose body fat. So unless we change some of these negative thoughts it is going to be difficult to reach our goals.

Here are some practical tips you can use to make the process of losing weight more effective.

  • Start out be getting clear on what your goals are, have a clear image of how you want your dream body to look like

  • Set realistic and attainable goals.

  • Set a time frame to reach your goals

  • Make sure to track and measure your progress

  • Have patience

Start out be getting clear on what your goals are, have a clear image of how you want your dream body to look.

Carry a clear mental picture of what you want, see the body of your dreams as vividly as possible in front of you. Make sure to do this as often as possible. See yourself attaining your goals, see yourself taking the necessary steps to get what you want i.e. doing the right exercises and enjoying it.

See yourself eating the right foods that will help you get what you want. See yourself as being active and energetic.

By continuously thinking new positive thoughts these thoughts will become a habits, and habits turn into action. Feel the satisfaction of having attained your goals, a lean body. Fill your mind with positive images as often as you can until you can imagine nothing else.

Keep the images of a new YOU ever present.

By doing these mental exercises you will be automatically guided to take the right steps towards achieving your dream.

Set realistic and attainable goals

There is no point in setting goals that you cannot achieve. You will only become frustrated.

It would be unrealistic to want to lose all the weight you put on in the course of a few years in your first of second month. Overweight did not come overnight, it was a gradual process so don not expect to much of yourself. Even if you would lose a few grams or only 1kg. per month don not worry, it is important to see progress. This will boost your confidence.

Set a time frame to reach your goals

There is also no point in being vague on the time frame you want to achieve you goals. If you want to lose 6kg. in 6 months this is very specific. It will be easier to track your progress

Make sure to track and measure your progress

Track your progress. If you want to lose 6kg. in 6 months the math is straightforward.

If you fall behind after a month or so try to make up in the next month check your discipline.

Have Patience

Have patience, what happened over a period of time cannot be reversed overnight.

So, be patient with yourself even if you don not make enough progress as you think you ought to.

Finally, never lose track of your goals and the mental images of the new You! Success will certainly be yours.
